Nifty K Cup Drawer – A good place to start decluttering your kitchen is to acquire the kitchen drawers arranged. They are not frequently seen (assuming they can shut!)
Do you open your drawers and find a jumbled mess? When you open the silverware drawer are you currently confronted with a tangled mess of silverware, napkins, and apparently random objects?
Apart from having the ability to maintain our clutter and empowering further disorganization, having messy kitchen drawers can waste time since we scour them through in search of this 1 thing that we need. To begin with, there are a few general guidelines which will allow you to decide what to keep and what to eliminate or move to a new storage space. That is based on how long it was since you used an item:
- More than a year: Get rid of that clutter! If it’s been over a year there shouldn’t be any reason to keep it.
- Nearly 1 year: You need to probably consider getting rid of whatever it is – however you might want to keep it if it’s used for holidays. These things can be safely transferred from the “busy” part of your kitchen and stored someplace more long term if only used yearly.
- 6 weeks: Again, you probably want to check at eliminating these items unless there’s some recurring date which occurs a few times a year.
- 1 month: All these things will need to be looked at for a choice to be made. Perhaps they can be transferred into a more long term storage space if they’re in a “high traffic” drawer. A few of these things may also need to be discarded.
- 1 day to 1 week: All these things constitute the most significant part your kitchen and should be placed in the drawers simplest to get and nearest to where they’re used. These are the things such as silverware, salt & pepper, mixers, etc..
Start with the drawer you use the most. For most of us this is going to be the silverware drawer. Follow the following steps to get your silverware coordinated:
- Empty the drawer out
- Wipe out the inside so that you’re starting with a clean drawer
- Get a silverware holder to different and keep utensils arranged
- If you do not have one or don’t want to purchase one, use a small box, then strips of cardboard, or other approach to produce dividers which will keep your different utensils separated.
- Pick where staying things go: do you need to keep everything which has been from the drawer? Could it go with other like things, or does this need to get donated or thrown off?
This simple action of organizing your silverware drawer can help save you time and potential hand injuries; I’ve skewered my finger a few times on knives and forks in drawers – doing that a few times has left me a life long lover of silverware holders!
Tupperware / Vinyl containers
Place these containers in simple to get drawers or shelving units and stack them on themselves. It means to take like containers and nest them on top of such as containers and also to do exactly the same with the lids. This will help save you some space and purchase items which are comparable grouped together.
If you don’t have a spice rack, or don’t want to take up space on your kitchen surfaces, you can store you spices in a drawer. There are racks you can make to assist split up these, but with most kitchens there’s a vast array of spice container dimensions and it may be hard to find the best one for you.
What might work better is to place the spices into the drawer the way you want them and then make, or find, long dividers to keep the spice containers in the configuration which you have them in. This might be carried out with bits of cardboard, sections of thin plastic, or some other comparable material.
Openers / Skewers / Grill Tools
Placing different kinds of openers, skewers, and grilling equipment into a drawer might help rid your other drawers of sharp and pokey tools that might snag a hand whilst rummaging around. While this isn’t meant to be a catch all drawer it can help to consolidate a number of the lesser used things which could be a hazard. These things might include:
- Can opener
- jar opener
- skewers for kabobs
- wine jar opener
- egg slicer
- cheese grater
This may seem like it goes against the notion of getting rid of clutter, but I think that each kitchen needs a drawer which can capture the odds and ends that are really useful but simply don’t fit in to any other drawer. The trick is to be certain that this doesn’t develop into an overflowing container which whatever you can’t make up your mind about moves into.
A good idea is to take a look at what is in the drawer since you go to place something inside and apply the time rule which was discussed above. If something hasn’t been utilized in a very long time do yourself a favor and throw it! Are there many duplicates in the Shop? Eliminate a number of them! Maintaining this drawer manageable will make it even more handy and helpful whilst preventing it from turning into a centre for clutter.
