Mayline C File 5 Drawer – A good place to start decluttering your kitchen is to acquire the kitchen drawers arranged. They are not frequently seen (assuming they can close!) But are often responsible for the vast majority of our kitchen clutter.

Can you open your drawers and find a jumbled mess? When you open the silverware drawer are you confronted with a tangled jumble of silverware, napkins, and seemingly random objects?

Besides having the ability to maintain our clutter and empowering further disorganization, having cluttered kitchen drawers can squander time since we scour through them in search of the 1 item that we require. By being cluttered, the drawers also conceal duplicates and make eliminating kitchen clutter harder; if we can’t put everything out and see what all we’ve we’re more prone to keeping what from the drawers and trying to not be concerned about it – but we could resolve this fast and easily!

To begin with, there are a number of general guidelines which can allow you to decide what to keep and what to eliminate or move to a new storage area. That can be based on how long it was since you used an item:

  • Over annually: Get rid of this mess! If it has been more than a year there shouldn’t be some reason to maintain it.
  • Nearly 1 year: You need to probably consider getting rid of whatever it is – but you may want to maintain it if it’s used for vacations. These items can be safely transferred from the “active” part of your kitchen and stored someplace more long term if only used yearly.
  • 6 months: Again, you probably need to check at eliminating these items unless there’s some recurring date which happens a few times annually.
  • 1 month: All these items need to be looked at for a choice to be made. Maybe they can be transferred to a more long term storage area if they’re in a “high traffic” drawer. Some of those items may also have to be lost.
  • 1 day per week: All these items constitute the very significant part your kitchen and ought to be placed in the drawers simplest to get and closest to where they’re used.

Begin with the drawer you use the most. For the majority of us this will be the silverware drawer. Follow these steps to Receive your silverware coordinated:

  • Empty out the drawer
  • Wipe out the inside so that you’re starting with a clean drawer
  • Get a silverware holder to different and maintain utensils arranged
  • If you do not have one or don’t wish to purchase one, use a little box, strips of cardboard, or alternative method to make dividers which will keep your distinct utensils split.
  • Pick where staying items go: do you really need to keep everything which was from the drawer? Could it go with other like items, or does this have to be given or thrown off?

This simple action of organizing your silverware drawer can save you time and potential hand injuries; I’ve skewered my finger several times on knives and forks in drawers – doing that several times has left me a life long fan of silverware holders!

Tupperware / Vinyl containers

Put these containers in simple to get drawers or shelving units and pile them on themselves. What does this mean? This means to carry like containers and nest them along with such as containers and to do the same using the lids. This will save you some space and purchase items which are comparable grouped together.

If you don’t have a spice rack, or don’t need to take up room on your own kitchen surfaces, you can store you spices in a drawer. There are racks you can make to assist split up these, but with most kitchens there’s a vast array of spice container sizes and it could be hard to find the best one for you.

What would work better would be to place the spices into the drawer how you need them and then make, or find, long dividers to keep the spice containers in the configuration which you have them in. This could be done with strips of cardboard, segments of thin plastic, or some other comparable material.

Openers / Skewers / Grill Tools

Putting several types of openers, skewers, and grilling equipment into a drawer can help rid your other drawers of sharp and pokey tools that may snag a hand while rummaging around. Even though this isn’t meant to be a catch all drawer it can help to combine some of those lesser used items which could be a danger. These items may include:

  • May opener
  • bottle opener
  • skewers for kabobs
  • tongs
  • spatulas
  • wine bottle opener
  • egg slicer
  • cheese grater

This may seem as if it goes against the notion of getting rid of clutter, but I believe that each kitchen needs a drawer which may capture the odds and ends that are really useful but just don’t fit in to any other drawer. The trick is to be certain that this will not develop into an overflowing container which whatever you can’t make up your mind about goes into.

A good idea would be to look at what’s in the drawer since you go to place something in it and put on the time rule which was discussed previously. If something hasn’t been utilized in a long time do yourself a favor and throw it! Are there many copies in the Shop? Eliminate some of them! Keeping this drawer manageable can make it more convenient and helpful while preventing it from becoming a center for clutter.

By Way of Example, right now in my odds and ends drawer I have these things:

Keeping my drawer restricted to things which are actually needed keeps them fairly coordinated and less of a hassle. When I am in my own kitchen I like to understand where my supplies are and in order to easily access them without needing to wade through piles of crap.
